We're engaged! Here's the story...

Yesterday (April 26) was mine and Dave's anniversary. We made plans to spend the day together. In the morning we got a couple's massage. Crazily enough, we ran into Bri and Danielle at the spa! Dana and I decided on the phone that they were probably the last people we know (well) to see us pre-engagement. Hehehe. I'd never had a massage before, but apparently I'm incredibly stiff and dehydrated. Now Dave and I both have memberships (hmmm....). After the massage and a quick food break, we went to the Seattle Asian Art Museum in Volunteer Park. It was great to see Garden and Cosmos - what a beautiful show! Then we stopped by the Volunteer Park Conservatory, and Dave took lots of flower pictures.

After that we drove back to Kirkland. Dave had told me we had dinner reservations, but I didn't know where. He said he wanted to go through downtown before going home to change. We parked and walked to Heritage Hall, this adorable building on the waterfront that I love. There is a park behind the building with beautiful native plants and view of the water. We walked around the paths, and Dave took some photos. I was starting to wonder if he would bring me to Heritage Hall on our anniversary and NOT ask...we had talked about getting engaged there. So, we walked down a side path and sat on a log looking out on Lake Washington. At this point I thought it was probably coming! :)

Dave was very sweet - he told me how much he cares about me, got down on one knee, and said, "Jacqueline Michelle White, will you marry me?" I said, "Yes!" - pause - "Yes!" We were out in the sun, so it was fun to see my ring for the first time all sparkly! It's beautiful, and exactly what I wanted.

It was great after he asked. We've both been wanting this for a long time, and we were so relieved to be able to talk about it! He told me that he wanted to bring the camera so he could carry the ring. I just wanted to take pictures! As we walked back to the car it was fun to hold hands and feel the ring on my finger. We stopped to take some photos in front of Heritage Hall.

But more surprises were to come! I still thought we were going out to dinner, but when we walked in the door of the condo, both our families were there! It took me a moment to figure out what was happening. On the way home I had asked Dave if we should start calling our family, and he said, "Let's get home first." At this point, I understood why. My mom, Len, Ryan, Josh, Dad, and Cathy were all there. So were Dave's parents, aunt, uncle, and Grandma. We both loved having our families there to support us, especially since we were still (and are still) pretty dazed! Our families love each other, and it was wonderful to know that they fully support us as we start our lives together.

After everyone left, we spent time fulfilling our social "obligations" and having fun telling the rest of our family and friends. Thank you to everyone for your support and excitement - we are extremely excited!

Lots more details will come in the days ahead. We'll probably get married in summer 2010. Oh my goodness!!!
